We were many things!

At first we were just one – Dolce Wang. Teaching mathematics and doing construction on a volunteer trip to Ghana in 2006.

Founder - Dolce Wang

Founder – Dolce Wang

Then we were Mi Voz – the beginning of our “official program” in 2011. Our aim – empowering self-expression in at-risk commmunities, around the world; through photography. Dolce gathered together a team and formulated a curriculum for the photo-workshop which taught participants to learn the basics of photography to capture their own stories around the themes of Interesting People and Places, A Day in the Life, and What Does Love Look Like? We worked with a special needs orphanage and school in Bogotá, Colombia called Hogares Luz y Vida.

Then, in 2012 we expanded to a broader community of family, friends and all-round awesome people who believed that we could make a change around the world, if we just pooled our resources. And we did. After our first ever Mi Voz fundraiser event in downtown Los Angeles, we were now $30,000 stronger. And with that we helped start a clinic at Hogares Luz Y Vida in Colombia.

Over 2012 to 2014, we became more than just mi Voz. More than just Luz y Vida in Bogotá, we became globe-trotters. Taking our curriculum and resources to over 6 other communities in 6 other countries and garnering the voices of over 10,000 photos.

Eventually, in the beginning of 2015 we came full circle, to our backyard of Los Angeles, working with our own at-risk communities and giving voice to our own voiceless, primarily through The Covenant House.

And now we are VOX. The Vox Photo Project.

But we’re not stopping here. We’re moving into more communities. Giving voice to more beautiful whispers throughout this world. And we’re not doing it alone. Join us on the #journeytoVOX as we countdown the next 6 weeks of preparation for our grand fundraising event in downtown Los Angeles, on June 26 – 27 2015.  We’ll be taking a more in-depth look at where we’ve come from, where we’ve been, who we are and some of the voices that have unearthed throughout our photo-journeys.
